The Chai Latte revolution

I managed to go through my first 38 years of life without a single cup of coffee (i once took an expresso as a dare once, and had the shakes at 3pm), however, I did take up the habit after my second child broke me.

Coffee quickly became a survival tool -and a beautiful ritual with friends before and during the workday, and a reason to leave the house n the weekend. However, a recent surgery gave me the opportunity to quite cold turkey to speed up my recovery, as well as knowing a barista coffee would be hard to source while in hospital. After a day of headaches, I managed to quit for good and I haven't looked back. One of the reasons is because I have effectively been able to swap my coffee routine for a new vice- Chai lattes!
I had been having the odd Chai so i knew i enjoyed the taste- but after swapping completely, I have seen some amazing benefits. my skin is glowing, my stomach isn't bloating (I partially blame cows milk for the bloat- and chai seems to blend nicely with oat milk).
I've just ordered some Nespresso compatible Chai Latte pods- will update with a review once i've tried them! My Chai ritual that still feels indulgent — but is gentler on my system and packed with long-term health benefits.
Here’s why I made the swap, and why you might want to try it too.

1. Say Goodbye to the Jitters
Coffee gives you that quick kick — but it can also leave you anxious, wired, and crashing by 3pm. Chai, on the other hand, contains black tea which still has caffeine, but in a smaller, more stable dose. It gives you a lift, without the crash.
2. Gut-Friendly Goodness
Coffee is acidic and can irritate the gut, especially if you're prone to reflux, bloat or that not-so-cute post-coffee toilet dash. Chai, especially with oat milk, is much gentler. The warming spices (like ginger, cinnamon and cardamom) actually support digestion rather than stress it.
3. Hormone-Friendly
Excess caffeine can mess with our already delicate mum-hormone balance. If you’re feeling burned out or anxious, cutting back might help your adrenals recover. Chai with oat milk offers a calming alternative that still feels like a treat.
🥛 Why Oat Milk?
Oat milk is creamy, satisfying, and has a subtle sweetness without any added sugar. It’s also:
Dairy-free and gut-friendly
Contains beta-glucans which support heart health
Naturally high in fibre, which helps with digestion and fullness
It also froths beautifully — so your chai still feels like a café-quality moment, even in a chipped mug surrounded by Lego.
Want to take your chai to the next level?
💫 Enter Collagen: The Glow-Up Bonus
Collagen powder is one of the easiest wellness upgrades you can make — and adding it to your oat chai latte is basically the mum version of multitasking.
Here’s what collagen can support:
Glowing skin (especially if pregnancy/postpartum left things dry or dull)
Stronger hair and nails
Joint health (hello, creaky knees from carrying toddlers)
Gut repair — especially helpful after stress, antibiotics, or dietary issues
Most collagen powders are tasteless and dissolve instantly, so you can sneak it into your morning cup without any weird texture or flavour.
Final Thoughts
If coffee is still your true love, no shame — we’ve all been there. But if you’re craving better energy, better digestion, and a little inner glow-up, this easy morning switch might surprise you. It’s one small change that makes a big difference — and for us mums, those are the kind we live for.
